The New Progressive Alliance (NPA) is a grassroots organization founded in 2010, entirely
online, in response to the Democratic Party’s complete and final forsaking of its role as the leading voice for Progressive ideals and reform in America.
In the 30 years prior to 2010, though their campaign rhetoric claimed otherwise, the party’s leadership and vast majorities of its Congresspeople and Senators had
increasingly shown a willingness to sell out the vital interests of America’s poor, its disadvantaged, and its working men and women – and to capitulate on basic Progressive policy issues such as
non-intervention, civil and human rights, and progressive taxation...
For many Progressives, the final straw came in early 2010. Despite control of both houses of Congress and the White House, Democrats failed to enact nationalized health
insurance, or even to provide a publicly funded alternative to the high-cost "coverage" offered by profiteering, benefits-denying insurance companies. Read more here

Justice
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Justice is the concept of moral rightness based on ethics, rationality, law, natural law, religion, fairness, or equity, along with the punishment of the breach of said ethics.
According to most theories of justice, it is overwhelmingly important: John Rawls claims that "Justice is the first virtue of
social institutions, as truth is of systems of thought." Justice can be thought of as distinct from and more fundamental than benevolence, charity, mercy, generosity or compassion. Justice has
traditionally been associated with concepts of fate, reincarnation or Divine Providence, i.e. with a life in accordance with the cosmic plan. The association of justice with fairness has thus been
historically and culturally rare and is perhaps chiefly a modern innovation [in western societies]. Read more here
Consumers for a Responsive Legal System
We are ordinary citizens who believe the legal system can and must do better. Consumers should be able to handle their own legal affairs without a lawyer and, when they
do need legal representation, it should be affordable and service-oriented. Just as importantly, lawyers and judges should be accountable for the quality of their work and for how they treat the
people they are meant to serve. Please join us in working positively and productively for a better legal system. Read more here at

Is it ethical for the American homeowner whose mortgage has been securitized to default, even If they are not financially distressed?
First, consider it is unlikely that marketable, fee simple, insurable title can be obtained as a result of fulfilling the obligations of the related promissory note. On
the contrary the titles to some 60 million homes in America are badly clouded. Secondly, encouraging investment in an asset class that has been artificially inflated, then deliberately destroying the
price of the asset, as part of a separate profit making scheme is unethical, and any agreement based on this type of fraud is grounds to consider the original debt instrument used in the agreement
null and void. Fortunately these grounds are unnecessary, as increasingly US courts are ruling that these mortgages are already invalid for numerous other reasons. Read more here

In 2008, McClatchy's bureau chief in Washington, D.C., John Walcott, was the first recipient of the I.F. Stone Medal for Journalistic Independence, awarded by the Nieman Foundation for Journalism. In accepting the award, Walcott commented on McClatchy's reporting during the period preceding the Iraq War: "Why, in a nutshell, was our reporting different from so much other reporting? One important reason was that we sought out the dissidents, and we listened to them, instead of serving as stenographers to high-ranking [Bush administration] officials and Iraqi exiles.

State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley resigns

March 14, 2011
The State Department's top spokesman resigned Sunday, three days after criticizing the Pentagon for its treatment of a soldier imprisoned on charges of leaking U.S.
government documents posted on the WikiLeaks website. P.J. Crowley, the assistant secretary of State for public affairs, told a group at the Massachusetts
Institute of Technology on Thursday that the Pentagon's treatment of Pfc. Bradley Manning was "ridiculous and stupid and counterproductive." His comments were made public by a blogger who attended
the session. Read more here, and on Politico, and The Washington Post
The Whistle-Blowers Act of 1777
The New York Times
by STEPHEN M. KOHN
June 12, 2011
FORTY years ago today, The New York Times began publishing the Pentagon Papers, a seminal moment not only for freedom of the press but also for the role of
whistle-blowers — like Daniel Ellsberg, who leaked the papers to expose the mishandling of the war in Vietnam — in defending our democracy.
Today, the Obama administration is aggressively pursuing leakers. Bradley E. Manning, an Army private, has been imprisoned since May 2010 on suspicion of having passed
classified data to the antisecrecy group WikiLeaks. Thomas A. Drake, a former official at the National Security Agency, pleaded guilty Friday to a misdemeanor of misusing the agency’s computer system
by providing information to a newspaper reporter.
The tension between protecting true national security secrets and ensuring the public’s "right to know" about abuses of authority is not new. Indeed, the nation’s
founders faced this very issue. Read more here

Anthracite Coal Strike
In 1902, 140,000 miners went on strike, wanting higher pay, shorter work hours, and better housing. They were led by John Mitchell, a fellow miner who formed the United Mine Workers (UMW). The mining companies refused to meet the demands of the UMW and contacted the Federal Government for support. Before Roosevelt, the government would send in military support to forcefully end the strike, but during Roosevelt’s terms, this strategy was not used. After the companies called for assistance, Roosevelt, fearful of the effects a coal shortage would have on the economy of the time, decided to host a meeting in the White House involving representatives or delegates, of the miners and the leaders of the mining companies. Mitchell, after returning from the White House meeting, met with the miners, and drew a consensus. The miners decided not to submit to political pressure, and continue on with the strike. Roosevelt then decided to bring in the military, but, instead of forcefully ending the strike and restoring power to the mining companies, he would use the military to run the mines in the "public interest". The mining companies, upset that they were no longer directly making a profit, then accepted the demands of the UMW.

John Brown
John Brown, the abolitionist of Harpers Ferry fame, sought to free slaves bound by chains and involuntary servitude. Brown’s raid in October 1859 with 22 men played a major role in starting the American Civil War. David S. Reynolds hails him as the man who "killed slavery, sparked the civil war, and seeded civil rights." That was 152 years ago. The Emancipation Proclamation in 1863 freed many slaves, and in December 1865 the Thirteenth Amendment abolished slavery and involuntary servitude.
In 2012 economic slavery has many people in debt chains. Economic or debt slavery is more efficient for its masters than the slavery of the Old South. Debt slaves must feed, house and clothe themselves. The debt slave masters, the banks, credit card companies, and even student loan providers, all rely upon the courts and justice system for enforcement of debt. When economic slaves can’t pay back their debt, they are told to get a second job. Or a third job.
Meanwhile, when the well-connected masters of economic slaves get in a financial bind, and
bring our economy to the brink of collapse, they call on politicians in Washington, DC for bailouts. Bankers don’t get second or third jobs, they get million-dollar bonuses.
The economic slave masters have access to the best lawyers, sympathetic judges, and sheriff’s
deputies ready to haul the debt slave to court, or throw him and his family out of their
home and into the street. Does anyone see a problem with this scenario? Where is the John Brown for today’s debt slaves?
